It happened around 3:45 p.m. on Route 72 near the intersection of Route 71.
Two cars and a van were involved.
One car was traveling westbound on Route 72 when it crossed the center line to pass a line of traffic. It then struck the van head-on.
The woman driving that car, who police say was in her 20's, was taken to Christiana Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The driver of the van suffered leg and hip injuries.
A car behind the van was also involved in the crash. That driver was not seriously injured.
The identities of those involved have not been released.
