Teenage driver strikes police car

CLAYMONT, Del. - December 17, 2009

The accident happened shortly after 5:00 p.m. on Grubb Road near Kingsridge Drive. According to authorities, a vehicle driven a 16-year-old male struck several vehicles including the police car and then overturned.

The 16-year-old was flown by Delaware State Police helicopter to Christiana Hospital with serious injuries.

New Castle County Police spokesperson says the officer was not injured and that the teen was fleeing from police. It is not clear whether police were actually in pursuit at the time of the accident or why the teen was fleeing.
