Twenty-four-year-old Michael Lapish will stand trial on first-degree murder and related charges in the March 2008 death of William Baez-Cintron Jr. Berks County Judge Thomas Parisi on Monday rejected a defense request to have him ruled incompetent.
Medical experts for both sides say Lapish has and IQ of 58 and Asperger's syndrome.
Reading police say Lapish admitted to killing Baez-Cintron and burning his body. Authorities say he confessed and led investigators to the body.
Lapish is being held without bail. His trial is scheduled for May.
