Inactive K-9s cost Atlantic City $40K

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) - December 30, 2009

According to The Press of Atlantic City, the city has spent nearly $10,000 per month on animals who haven't worked since August.

The money was used to pay for veterinary care, food, and on training the dogs.

Langford ordered the K-9 units to be taken out of service in all but the most serious cases. The mayor said his order was in response to complaints of police brutality from residents of the city, where African-Americans comprise about 44 percent of the population.
