Teen shot during attempted robbery

NEW CASTLE, Del. - January 1, 2010

The teen was transported to Christiana Hospital where he was stabilized after he underwent emergency surgery.

At around 9:36 p.m. on January 1, police were called for a report of a shooting during an attempted robbery.

According to police, the victim was talking with friends near the area of the parkland when they were approached by two male subjects who brandished a handgun. One of the subjects shot the victim two times during the attempted robbery before they fled on foot empty handed. The victim, who was seated inside a car at the time of the shooting, was transported to the hospital in the car.

Police tracked down a suspect on Bunker Hill Road and was arrested without incident. The suspect, identified as 19-year-old Anthony Ricchiuti, has been linked to the crime and charged with assault in the first degree, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and conspiracy.
