The fire broke out at around noon on the 4200 block of Powelton Avenue.
Firefighters worked quickly to rescue the people stuck on the roof and get the fire under control.
Crews were able to gain the upper hand of the fire in about 20 minutes, however at least one person, a male in his 50's, was transported to Presbyterian Hospital as a code blue for smoke inhalation.
Two others were removed from the building, no word on their condition.
Officials say the fire may have been started by a kerosene heater.
