It happened just before 2:00 p.m. at the intersection of 7th and Union Streets in Wilmington.
The wire caught fire while on the ground causing flames in the street. This created a hole on the street.
Two neighborhoods were without power for about two hours. Their power was restored around 4:00 p.m.
There were no reported injuries.
The intersection was closed for repairs, but was reopened late Sunday night.
