It happened around 10:00 a.m. in the rear of a home in the 1100 block of Rosedale Avenue.
Authorities say the resident heard the smoke detector and was able to get out safely.
However, a firefighter did suffer chest pains while fighting the fire and was taken to Christiana Hospital.
Investigators say the fire was sparked by an electrical problem on the rear porch and has been ruled accidental.
