Four arrested in identity theft ring

BENSALEM TWP., Pa. - January 5, 2010

Officers say the suspects may be part of a widespread operation that has been operating up and down the east coast.

It began when police were conducting surveillance of a Red Roof Inn in the Trevose community of Bensalem Township on Monday.

When police saw four men entering the room, officers approached and one man, 31-year-old Earl Johnson, tried to flee. When he was caught, police say he had several pieces of identification belonging to various women, along with a $1,900 check.

Police tracked down two of the victims, who said they both recently had their cars broken into and purses stolen.

One of the other men arrested, 30-year-old Armone Stanley, had evidence on him that led investigators to more victims, police said.

As the investigation continued, police say they recovered 35 driver's licenses, 53 credit cards, 50 personal checks or checkbooks, and a number of cellular phones and iPods.

In all, police say there are between 90 and 100 victims from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and as far south as Florida.

In addition to Johnson and Stanley, 22-year-old Ronnie Lodge and 23-year-old Javaris Williams were also arrested. Police say all four men are from the Fort Lauderdale area of Florida.

Investigators say this case may be connected to a vehicle theft operation recently discovered in Upper Merion.

Police say they are still in the process of contacting victims.

If you have been a recent victim of identity theft, you are asked to contact your local police department or contact the Bensalem Police Detective Division at 215-633-3719.
