Computer school cites bank action for closure

BALTIMORE - January 5, 2010

ComputerTraining.edu's Web site states that the shutdown occurred after the school's primary financier, BB&T Corp., froze its accounts and line of credit and began seizing its assets.

The Web site directs students seeking refunds to contact education officials in their state, listing contacts in Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin.

BB&T spokeswoman A.C. McGraw says it was the company's decision to shut down and she did know immediately if bank accounts had been frozen.

The Pennsylvania Attorney General's office is investigating whether state consumer protection laws were violated.

Spokesman Nils Frederiksen says his office is investigating whether students did not receive a product they paid for. Frederiksen says the best thing students can do is file a formal complaint because each has information that can be helpful.

Raquel Guillory, a spokeswoman for the Maryland Attorney General's office, says Maryland students are being referred to the state's Higher Education Commission.
