Pa. state trooper is charged with DUI

PHILADELPHIA - January 8, 2010

Pennsylvania State Police say 47-year-old Cpl. John Quigg, of Wyndmoor, was off duty when he crashed his own car into a guardrail on Route 422 in Upper Merion on Dec. 17.

According to court documents, police say there was an open bottle of alcohol in the car and Quigg was unresponsive and appeared intoxicated. The results of blood tests are pending.

Quigg, an accident reconstruction specialist based at the Belmont state police barracks in Philadelphia, has a court hearing scheduled for Feb. 5.

His attorney, Tim Woodward, says his client "made a bad decision that he deeply regrets."
