Shootout with police wounds suspect, homeowner

SOUTHWEST PHILADELPHIA - January 12, 2010

Investigators say it began around 2:00 a.m. Tuesday when 47-year-old Mohammad Sall was confronted by a gunman just as he ended his shift as a cab driver.

The gunman, apparently hoping to get more money, forced Sall into a house on the 6600 block of Dicks Avenue where the cabbie has been staying with a friend.

Someone in the house realized what was happening and was able to call police.

When officers arrived, the gunman was still in the house.

Police say the gunman forced the cabbie and the homeowner up to a second floor bedroom, then opened fire on police.

During the shootout police say the homeowner, identified as 53-year-old Abraham Diallo, was shot in the chest by the suspect. Police shot the gunman at least twice, including once in the leg.

Investigators say the suspect then crashed through a window and landed on the roof of the front porch.

Police say he then leapt to one neighboring porch, then another, before finally collapsing.

The suspect and homeowner are in the hospital in critical but stable condition. Both are expected to survive.
