Bargains in Joan Shepp's basement

RITTENHOUSE SQUARE - January 15, 2010

But this weekend is one of two weekends a year when you can step into Joan Shepp's basement and find deals like a $450 pair of pants for just $50.

"It's an exciting basement sale," Joan Shepp, owner of the boutique explains. "We do it twice a year and we have a lot of creative things and we want to sell it, so that we can bring in all of the new Spring things."

The setup in the basement isn't fancy -- but the clothes are. And most are 50 to 70 percent off.

"I think everybody wants to by something that's expensive for not a lot of money," Shepp says. "That makes it even more exciting and more fun."

A Givenchy top, jacket and pants were originally priced at $3,881 are on sale for $1548. A Helene Berman jacket and Dries Van Noten skirt were originally $1472, are on sale for $613. Laboutin shoes that were $1045 can be yours for the relatively low price of $349.

And not everything is that expensive.

In addition to a rack-full of pants for $50, we found a pink halter dress that was originally $115 and is on sale for $46. And a coat from London that was originally $395, is on sale for $158.

In addition to the clothes and shoes, there are purses, jewelry and some vintage items, also on sale.

The sale runs from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Joan Shepp's boutique is located at 1616 Walnut Street.
