Haitian community seeks aid from Phila. gov't.

PHILADELPHIA - January 14, 2010

"We're looking for some donations, medical equipment, medical supplies," said Jiordanay Jean-Baptiste

The city has limited resources on its own, but will be working through existing channels and agencies. For instance, the Department of Behavioral Health will be offering grief counseling to Haitian-Americans living in the area.

Some people are already dealing with the devastating news that they've lost loved ones.

As for material relief, there isn't much the city can offer other than to help plan logistics.

Mayor Nutter is expected to announce the results of the meeting later on Thursday afternoon.
