A charity with sole - Haitian shoe drive

WILMINGTON, Del. - January 14, 2010

While Dee Dee takes delight in counting gently used shoes for people in her homeland, she is too young to fully understand the pictures coming out of Haiti. The images show the mass destruction that hit Haiti after the earthquake, but Jean Marc worries about his seven siblings and the biological father he left behind

Jean-Marc knows his adoptive dad, Tim Wampler, is making plans to search for his Haitian family in the coming weeks. To ramp up the work, Shoes to Share has done in partnership with an agency that's been helping the poor in Haiti for years. That's why Wampler's newest effort will be called "T.H.E.R.E." for "The Haitian Earthquake Relief Effort."

Making donations through already established agencies is the advice of experts dealing with this kind of massive destruction. That's why Wampler's newest effort will be called there. The phone at Shoes to Share has been ringing off the hook all morning with calls from people who want to help.

Shoes to Share has a goal of sending 10,000 pairs of shoes to Haiti, especially work boots. But that's just the beginning of the items desperately needed.
