Twenty-six-year-old Jose Omar Mendez was sentenced to 13 and a half to 27 years in prison.
He was convicted of manslaughter in October in the shooting death of 15-year-old Teven Rutledge.
Authorities say Mendez got into an argument with the teen over a snowball fight and later returned with a gun and shot Rutledge in the head.
Mendez says he fired in self-defense after being threatened with a knife.
