Police officer shot in East Goshen

EAST GOSHEN TWP., Pa. - January 18, 2010

Around 11:25 Sunday night a Westtown-East Goshen police officer was investigating a suspicious vehicle parked near the intersection of Dutton Mill and Strasburg Roads in East Goshen. A man and a woman were standing outside of the car as the officer approached. There was a heated exchange between the officer and the man. That's when, police say, the man opened fire on the officer with a semi-automatic handgun, striking him in the hand. The couple jumped into the vehicle and drove off.

The officer returned fire, but it is unclear if the suspect was hit.

The suspect is described as being a white male in his mid to late twenties, standing approximately 6'0 with a husky build. He was clean-shaven and wearing a grey pullover hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and a baseball hat.

A white female with long brown hair past her shoulders accompanied the man. She was wearing a light-colored t-shirt. Police believe the couple were engaged in a domestic dispute when they were approached by the officer.

The gunman and the woman fled the scene headed east on Strasburg Road in a dark colored 4-door sedan, thought to be a Honda or an Accord, with possible Delaware registration.

The officer was transported to Crozer-Chester Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the hand. He was treated and released overnight.

The gunman is considered armed and dangerous. Police fear for the woman's safety and are urging anyone with information pertaining to the suspect's identity or whereabouts to contact police at (610) 692-5100.
