Baby survives crash after alleged Pa. carjacking

PHILADELPHIA - January 18, 2010

Police say the baby escaped serious injury.

Authorities say the suspect, identified as 37-year-old Tracy Cherry, carjacked the vehicle Saturday night in the city's Chinatown section. The car's engine was running as the baby's father tended to the child in the back seat.

Police say the carjacker ordered them out of the car, but became agitated and drove off before the man could remove the baby.

Cherry crashed the car about a mile away and fled. Police say the baby had head abrasions. Cherry was later captured and charged with Kidnapping, Robbery, Carjacking, Aggravated Assault, Simple Assault, Fleeing Police, and other related offenses.
