Baby found after Del. carjacking

WILMINGTON, Del. - January 18, 2010

The carjacking happened around 7:45 p.m. at the intersection of Greenhill Avenue and Lancaster Avenue.

Tiffany Righter parked in front of a Sunoco station there, and ran inside to make a purchase. Her baby, Zion, was in the car.

"When I came out he was just shutting my door. I banged on the door, 'My baby's in the car, my baby's is the car.' He pulled off anyway," Righter said.

Frantic witnesses told her the man who stole her car was dropped off by two other men. She tried appealing to them next.

"The other two dudes were pulling out after him, and I told them 'My baby was in that car, my baby was in that car.' They said, 'We don't know what you're talking about,'" said Righter.

She says they then peeled off, leaving her there to imagine the worst.

"I don't know what happened to him, I didn't know. People are crazy these days, I don't know what he could have done with my baby. He could have gotten in a car accident. These are all the things I was thinking," she said.

About a half hour later the car, along with little Zion, was found a few blocks away at Lancaster and South Bancroft Parkway.

He was fast asleep.

Now that he's safe, his mother is too relieved for words.

"I can't explain it. I can't explain how I feel," she said.

An employee at the Sunoco store told Action News they have surveillance footage of the incident, which has been turned over to police.
