Missionaries return to Montco from Haiti

SOUDERTON, Pa. - January 19, 2010

It was a joyful welcome for the members of the Souderton Mennonite Church in Montgomery County. The first group from Haiti landed at Philadelphia International Airport around 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday greeted by tears and lots of hugs.

"People don't have what they need to have an infrastructure. It's a sad thing, I can't wait to go back, but we're glad to be here with our family," said missionary Dan Zigler.

"It was crazy, but I'm glad to be home," said missionary Courtney Moyer.

The Mennonite group was in Haiti to drill a well for safe and clean drinking water in the southern part of the country when the quake struck.

They felt the aftershocks, one said the ground felt like Jell-O, but thankfully no one in the group was injured.

"It's bad. It's something we will remember for the rest of our lives," said Stanley Keller.

"Just going back to Port-au-Prince to get evacuated was hard. The last night we stopped at a place to get something to eat, and when we went back it was leveled, just completely gone. That was hard for me to see," said Luke Zigler.

Missionaries from the church go to Haiti every year to work on projects to help people there. Now, they say they want to go back and help rebuild.
