Senator Arlen Specter and Congressman Joe Sestak are battling it out for a chance to run against Republican Pat Toomey in November.
On Tuesday, Specter was holding a hearing on the crisis of nearly 50,000 outstanding fugitive warrants in Philadelphia. Moments after the hearing ended, Sestak summoned reporters to claim Specter's campaign strategy is to garner headlines from these hearings, but not to follow through on solving problems.
However, both candidates are closing watching the senate race in Massachusetts. They know the healthcare reform measures they supported are in trouble if Democrat Martha Coakley loses the race.
"We got a problem, but we're going to have to deal with it. And we should. But as I said, if we had led better, explained better, been down there and not in an echo chamber, we wouldn't have gotten here," said Rep. Sestak.
"We're facing a situation in Washington, D.C. today for incumbents, people who are supporting the system, are in grave jeopardy," said Sen. Specter.
Polls where Specter is better known show him winning. But in areas where Sestak has as much name recognition he is running even.
Sestak is blasting the wily Specter at every opportunity.
"Maybe if Sen. Kennedy was around it would be different," said Rep. Sestak. "Where was Arlen Specter? Holding a hearing?"
"It's going to take a tough guy, representing the Democrats, to hold my seat. Congressman Sestak wasn't around when I was facing those tough town meetings of the tea parties," said Sen. Specter.
The Specter-Sestak race will heat up as the weather turns warmer, with millions to be spent on TV and radio campaign ads.
