Delaware appliance rebates

WILMINGTON, Del. - January 21, 2010

John Burrows is shopping for a new washer. Now, what's even nicer is the money he'll save thanks to a $838,000 federal cash-for-appliances stimulus program that Delaware was the first in the nation to try.

Since December, lots of people have been doing it to save energy and money. The savings can be anywhere from $100 for energy efficient refrigerators to $30 for dishwashers.

Delaware State Senator Harris McDowell has been pushing for energy savings for more than 30 years, long before the current green movement.

Now, he says Delaware's program will take the equivalent of 100 homes off the energy grid thanks to customers like John Burrows who are buying appliances with the EngeryStar symbol as part of the program. The savings nationwide will be even more significant.

Residents and businesses can download rebate forms by visiting www.energizedelaware.org and learn more about benefits of conservation and renewable energy use.
