Vigil held for man killed by off-duty cop

PORT RICHMOND - January 22, 2010

Family members of Bill Panas were joined by the community for a candlelight vigil.

It was two months ago when the 21-year-old Panas was shot and killed by off duty police officer Frank Tepper during a brawl.

"Our son was not a criminal. Our son was not armed and dangerous. Our son was going out to get dinner and meet his girlfriend. We still have his last text message," said Panas' mother Karen.

"We still have a note he wrote to us on the fridge. We still have his car parked in front of our house," said Panas' father, Bill Sr., who added his son had just graduated barber school. He and his wife were going to help Bill, Jr. buy a shop.

Tepper has claimed self defense, but has been fired from the police department.

The Panas family wants Tepper arrested for murder.
