WILMINGTON, Del. - January 25, 2010

Police say 22-year-old Barry Cline confronted the clerk at the 7-Eleven on South Maryland Avenue in the Wilmington area with a baseball bat and demanded money early Sunday.

The clerk was struck several times in the head, chest and right leg, but managed to take the bat away from Cline and lock him inside the store until troopers arrived.

Cline was arrested and charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree assault, wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony and criminal impersonation.

The clerk and the suspect were taken to Christiana Hospital near Newark where they were treated for injuries sustained in the robbery.
