Man dead, brother wounded in shooting

WILMINGTON, Del. - January 26, 2010

According to investigators, the brothers had just left their home around 10:00 p.m. and were walking in the 200 block of North Scott Street when they were approached by three men.

One of the men opened fire on the victims, striking both. The 16-year-old was able to run from the scene, but his brother, Marco Cruz, 18, collapsed after suffering multiple gunshot wounds to the torso. He later died at the hospital.

Officers on patrol were then flagged down by the16-year-old. He was suffering from gunshot wounds to the hand, arm and torso.

Police say he pointed to a man walking in the street as the person who shot him. The officers caught the man after a brief foot chase, and he has been identified as 17-year-old Aking Deleon. They also recovered a 9mm handgun Deleon allegedly threw as he was running.

Deleon is charged with murder, attempted murder and weapons charges.

Police are still seeking another man, 20-year-old Carlos Torres of N. Jessup Street in Wilmington.
