It happened around 3:49 p.m. along Route 9 near Joffre Avenue.
Investigators say the ambulance was driven by 46-year-old Joseph Sims while 24-year-old Paul Hewitt rode inside. There was no patient on board.
The ambulance collided with a Chevy Trailblazer driven by 43-year-old Alyn Toth of Burleigh, who was trapped in her vehicle.
She was flown to Atlantic Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City.
There is no word on the extent of her injuries.
Police are investigating.
