Legislators are proposing measures that would allow the electric carts in bike lanes and on sidewalks throughout the state.
Another bill would allow carts on streets with speed limits of 25 and below.
Supporters say legalizing golf carts would give the elderly increased mobility.
But many in law enforcement oppose the idea.
The News Tribune reports Don Pierce, of the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs, says traffic and golf carts aren't a good mix.
