NJ voters hostile to school construction projects

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - January 27, 2010

They defeated seven of the nine school construction projects up for votes in communities across the state Tuesday.

The only two that were adopted were to replace the roof and install solar panels at Cumberland Regional High School. Voters also agreed to replace part of a roof at the elementary school in Sussex County's Montague.

Referenda were defeated in Wood-Ridge, Pennsauken, Edison, Jackson Township, High Point, Knowltown and Washington Borough.

All the projects were eligible for state subsidies if they had passed.
