State Police were called to the area of Twin Willows Road on Thursday, when neighbors heard what they thought to be an accident.
According to police, a Toyota Corolla driven by 22-year-old David James Caward the 3rd was traveling on Twin Willows Road. The Toyota crossed the eastbound lane, exited the south edge of Twin Willows Road, and traveled through a marsh area for approximately 260 feet before entering a creek.
The Toyota was partially submerged in water, which rose up as high as the windows of the vehicle. The vehicle was also surrounded by weeds over 6 feet in height.
Delaware State Police dive team members responded to the accident scene to assist the towing company with attaching tow cables to the underside of the vehicle.
The victim was turned over to the Delaware Medical Examiner's Office. Caward was pronounced dead at the accident scene.
