The former Becton Regional High School teacher was arrested Saturday after an investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office and the East Rutherford and Carlstadt police departments.
Prosecutor John Molinelli says an investigation revealed the 29-year-old man had been exchanging sexually explicit pictures and messages with a 16-year-old student.
The former teacher faces charges of criminal sexual contact, endangering the welfare of a child and official misconduct.
Authorities say the man taught math at the school and was a former soccer coach. He has since resigned.
Bail is set at $100,000. His arraignment is set for Tuesday.
