Walk-in clinic opens in Center City

CENTER CITY - February 1, 2010

Drexel University officials cut the ribbon Monday for their clinic on the ground floor of the Shops at Liberty Place.

It will be open 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. in order to be convenient for the tens of thousands of people who work or live in Center City.

The clinic, which includes both doctors and nurse practitioners, can handle routine medical problems.

If need be, patients will be referred to Drexel specialists and they'll be seen within a week.

The facility has a state-of-the-art medication vending machine to dispense more than 2 dozen common generic drugs.

"It makes it affordable for patients, and extremely convenient for patients where they can come into our office, and leave with the medication, versus even having to wait in the pharmacy," said Dr. Thomas McAndrew of the Drexel College of Medicine.

A handful of other health systems in the Philadelphia area are reportedly considering similar clinics.

AtlantiCare has operated two at the Jersey shore for several years.
