Officials announced Tuesday that five-month-old Rudy has been placed in medical foster care.
The dog will remain there until he is released from protective custody and is well enough to be adopted.
Investigators say Rudy was burned last week by 33-year-old John Fleet.
It happened in the 1100 block of Sanger Street in the Oxford Circle section of Philadelphia.
The SPCA say Fleet became enraged when the dog nipped his children. He then allegedly poured rubbing alcohol on the dog and lit it on fire.
The crime was discovered after his children went to school and told counselors what had happened.
Rudy was burned on the neck and ears.
Fleet has been charged with animal cruelty.
