Teen arrested for deadly hit and run

WILMINGTON, Del. - February 3, 2010

The tragedy played out at East 23rd and Lamotte streets on January 9th. The hit and run suspect now charged in Tommy White's death is a 17-year-old girl.

Latika Wright was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide. She's accused of hitting Tommy White, then dragging, the 9-year-old several blocks while witnesses screamed for her to stop.

She finally did stop after someone literaaly stood in the street to block her path.

While the family continues to mourn for young Thomas, they take daily care of a shrine erected in his memory and cling to pictures of happier times before the youngster's life was cut short.

Tommy's family wonders one thing; with street cameras surrounding the neighborhood, why did it take authorities so long to make an arrest?

Police will only say they were waiting for the Delaware Attorney General's Office to firm up its case against Wright. Now this family can only hope the justice system works in young Thomas' favor.
