State police say a woman was struck and killed by a vehicle on the Route 222 bypass in Macungie around 6 a.m. Thursday. Investigators say the woman was between 30 and 50 years old and was not carrying any identification.
Police say the vehicle that hit the woman did not stop, but other motorists who saw the crash stopped and alerted authorities.
Officials closed the southbound lanes of the bypass for several hours to investigate. They were reopened by midday.
Macungie is about 45 miles north of Philadelphia, just outside Allentown.
