Study shows 3D can cause headaches, eye strain

But some experts think they could cause eye strain, fatigue and headaches. for some people, if they are not made correctly.

The trouble comes from the constant re-adjustment the eyes have to make to see 3-D images clearly.

Dr. Martin Banks, of the University of California-Berkeley, says, our eyes normally come together to focus on something near, and move apart when looking at something far away.

But 3D changes that relationship - forcing you to concentrate on something near, but use a far object to focus on.

"What we showed in our study is that need to uncouple it did cause fatigue and it did cause eye strain, headaches, things like that," says Dr. Banks.

He has conducted a study on how the eyes react to 3D.

And he presented is research to movie producers. He hopes they will search for ways to eliminate the problem, or at least be mindful of doing the movies correctly.

Dr. Banks says some people will see more of an effect.

"When you hit your 50's and 60's, we think that concern is going to be reduced. So that is probably more problematic for young adults, teenagers, et cetera," he says.

With retailers ready to sell 3D televisions as early as this spring, there's a big need to get a solution to the issue soon.
