Durante suffered a fatal heart attack at home around 1:00 a.m. Wednesday.
Durante, 60, served as the Montgomery County Sheriff for the past 10 years. Prior to that, he worked as a Montgomery County Detective for 28 years.
"We've lost an unparalleled personality from the Court House," Montgomery County Commissioners Chairman Jim Matthews said. "He was driven and patriotic. Our hearts go out to his wife and family."
