1 dead as snow causes building collapse

RIVERSIDE, N.J. - February 10, 2010

One person was killed. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

About 4,000 county residents were reported without power due to downed trees and wires in several towns including Medford, Medford Lakes, Pemberton Township, Shamong, Tabernacle and Willingboro.

Tabernacle declared a State of Emergency Wednesday night. Shelter for residents without power is being provided at Tabernacle United Methodist Church.

First Energy reported 17,000 customers out of service in Central Jersey.

In Pemberton Township, Magnolia Road is closed due to a downed tree and wires. In Mt. Laurel, Elbo Lane is blocked by a downed tree between Mt. Laurel Road and Winding Way.

The Burlington County Transit Service and BurLink buses will not be operating Thursday. County offices are expected to be open.

County Highway Department crews continue to plow and salt throughout the county with round-the-clock shifts of drivers. The County Emergency Operations Center will remain open through Thursday as needed.
