Snow-covered hydrants hinder effort to douse fire

STANTON, Del. (AP) - February 17, 2010

The blaze broke out around 6:45 p.m. Tuesday at the Murray Manor Trailer Park.

When firefighters arrived, Mill Creek Fire Company spokesman Jon Stewart says they found heavy fire showing from the roof. He says the two adults and three children inside were able to escape. He says the two adults had minor injuries, but refused treatment.

Stewart says firefighters had to use tankers for water because the fire hydrants in the area were buried in snow. It took firefighters about 45 minutes to control the blaze.

He urged residents to dig out their neighborhood hydrants to help the fire service.

The fire is still under investigation.
