The Environmental Working Group has issued its 2010 cell phone radiation report, listing radiation levels on 1,00 0 cell phones, PDAs, and smartphones.
Some of the newer models emit more radiation than some older models. And Smartphones are among them.
Topping the list for best phones were the Sanyo Katana II, the Samsung Rugby, and the Blackberry Storm 9530. At the other end of the list were the Blackberry 8820, the Motorola i880, and the Palm Pixi
Among the PDAs and Smartphones, those with the lowest radiation were the Nokia 7710, the Blackberry Storm 9500 Smartphone, and the Blackberry Storm 9530.
Those emitting the highest radiation include the Blackberry 8820, the Palm Pixi, and Blackberry Bold 9700.
The EWG has these tips for reducing your radiation exposure:
1. Buy a low-radiation phone.
2. Use a headset or speaker.
3. Listen more, talk less - phones emit radiation when you talk or text, but not when you are receiving messages.
4. Hold the phone away from your body, and don't keep it in a pocket or on your belt, because soft body tissues absorb radiation.
5. Choose texting over talking. Phones use less power for text than for voice messages.
6. Skip the "radiation shield." Shields such as antenna caps or keypad covers reduce the connection quality, and force the phone to transmit at a higher power, with higher radiation.
