Police in Bucks County seek luring suspects

WARMINSTER, Pa. - February 19, 2010

"I'm disgusted with people like that. If they do get him I'd like to be the one to catch him," Tony Duffy of Upper Southampton said.

Neighbors are outraged over two cases of attempted child luring in their normally quiet Bucks County communities this week. While the vehicles involved were different, police say what ties the two cases together is the suspect's description.

"They describe him as white, in his 40's, 50's and scruffy looking," Chief Ron MacPherson of the Upper Southampton Township Police said.

The first incident occurred on Beaver Road in Upper Southampton around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. Police say a man in a gold or tan Toyota Corolla followed a high school girl and four friends home. After driving by her house several times, Action News is told he parked in her driveway until a male friend ordered him to leave.

About an hour later on Gibson Avenue in Warminster, police say a man in a white van with a roof-rack pulled up to a 12-year-old boy and told him to get in. When the boy refused and ran away, the van sped away turning on Henry Avenue.

"In none of the incidents were they able to get them in the car, but we want to tell everybody not to approach the vehicle and certainly don't get in the car," MacPherson said.

Authorities were looking into the possibility of a third case on Hilltop Road in Upper Southampton, but after further investigation, they found it to be unfounded.

Police do not have surveillance footage to work from, but if you have any tips or have seen anything suspicious call Southampton Police at 215-357-8900 or Warminster Police at 215-443-5000.
