Police seize 9 pounds of marijuana, teen arrested

WILMINGTON, Del. - February 20, 2010

He has been charged with felony drug violations after he was stopped in his car for a traffic violation and later found to be in possession of a large box that contained trace amounts of marijuana which was consistent with shipping of drugs.

Based on information gleaned from the stop, the officers obtained a search warrant at the driver's home and recovered nine pounds of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

On Friday, February 19, officers from the Mobile Enforcement Team were assigned to patrol the Richardson Park area in an effort to address quality of life issues in the community.

At approximately 3:30 p.m., the officers observed a silver-colored Plymouth Neon commit a minor traffic violation.

The officers then stopped the car and immediately smelled a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the interior. Inside the vehicle, the officers found a large cardboard box that contained green cellophane, duct tape and a trace amount of marijuana. Police discovered the box had been delivered to the home of the driver earlier in the day and most likely contained marijuana.

Based on the manner in which the box was found and the fact that the package had just been delivered to the driver's home, the officers applied for and obtained a search warrant for his residence. Inside the home, officers located more than nine pounds of marijuana inside a trash bag in Brady's bedroom. Police also recovered digital scales and packaging materials from the home.

He was arrested and charged with trafficking marijuana, possession with the intent to deliver marijuana, maintaining a dwelling for keeping a controlled substance, maintaining a vehicle for keeping a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and traffic related offenses. He has been arraigned and committed to the Howard Young Prison after failing to post $27,500 secured bail.
