Suspect sought after cat shot in the eye

WILLIAMSTOWN, N.J. - February 22, 2010

The New Jersey SPCA is offering a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever shot the cat.

The cat, which has been nicknamed "Valentine," was discovered on January 30th in Williamstown sitting on top of a woodpile. A neighbor noticed the dart in its eye and took Valentine to a veterinarian.

The dart may have been in the cat's eye for about a week.

In a photo posted on the NJ SPCA's website, Valentine can be seen with a dart stuck in her eye.

Action News has decided to blur the image used on 6abc.com because it is so graphic.

The dart was removed and Valentine lost her eye.

Valentine is believed to be a stray, so she is living with a foster family. The NJ SPCA says it expects that she will be able to be adopted soon.

Investigators add they have been working with blow dart manufacturers and sellers in an effort to get leads on this case.

Anyone with information is asked to call 1-800-582-5979.
