Teenage girls hit by train identified

NORWOOD, Pa. - February 25, 2010

The two girls have been identified as 15-year-old Gina Gentile and 15-year-old Vanessa Dorwart, sophomores from Interboro High School. The superintendent tells Action News the girls did attend school Thursday, but left in the morning hours.

"Gina & Vanessa were probably two of the most nicest people I've ever met," classmate Danielle Radcliff said.

Grief counselors are scheduled to be at the Interboro High School tomorrow.

The accident occurred between 10:20 and 10:40 Thursday morning near West Winona Avenue in Norwood, Pennsylvania.

Police say the two girls jumped a fence Amtrak officials then say the girls were hit by ACELA train #2151 traveling southbound from Boston to Washington, D.C. The train also makes a stop in Philadelphia.

The train is authorized to run the tracks at 110mph.

A third girl who was with them witnessed their deaths.

Family and friends of the teens have been gathering at the scene in considerable shock.

Sources say, Gentile was heartbroken over the loss of her boyfriend, Bill Bradley. Bradley was killed back on January 29 in nearby Glenolden when a vehicle struck his bicycle as he was on his way to Gina's home.

A teddy bear with valentine balloons and a rose still mark the corner of West South Avenue and Linwood Circle where he died.

On a Facebook page, Gentile wrote about Bradley saying in part: 'I'll never accept the fact that you're gone, I just can't wait til the day I see you again, you're constantly on my mind'.

Police are investigating reports that the three girls had planned going onto the highly dangerous train tracks.

Train traffic had to be stopped after the accident. Amtrak spokeswoman Tracy Connell says all tracks were reopened by 1 p.m. and service has returned to normal.
