Police: Man taped girls at mall, child porn on computer

PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. - March 4, 2010

Authorities say he gathered his material at an area mall for use on his home computer.

Investigators first became aware of Robert Hunt's alleged sex crimes in September when he was caught videotaping juvenile girls here at the Plymouth Meeting Mall.

As the investigation unfolded, detectives found child pornography on his home computer.

Neighbors of Robert Hunt are horrified by the child sex abuse charges.

"We were so shocked when we heard about it, something like that, you don't know whether to believe it or not," neighbor George Dewees said.

Investigators say Hunt took photos of young girls in various stages of undress inside the Plymouth Meeting Mall, often inside bathrooms.

They say he also admitted to recording videos without their knowledge and downloading them to his computer for sexual gratification.

In addition to the sex charges, Hunt faces a tampering with evidence charge.

"Because after he was encountered by the police, he actually went home and made an effort to delete some of these images from his computer to hide them from law enforcement," Montgomery County district attorney Risa Vetri Ferman said.

Hunt was not at home when Action News tried to confront him about the allegations.

Neighbors say Hunt is married and has a teenage son.

They describe him as a neighbor who was always willing to lend a helping hand and if the allegations prove true, it's a scary reminder that we often don't know when a sexual predator is lurking amongst us.
