Contest for canine heroes

He is a finalist in a national contest recognizing canine heroes.

Owners Barbara and Fred Berman of Sanford, N.C. say they named their dog after Prozac because he makes everybody happy.

Prozie's first act of heroism came when his incessant barking woke up the dogsitters.

The house was destroyed by fire but everyone got out.

Another time, Prozie's barking alerted the family to a 94-year-old aunt who was having breathing problems.

The elderly woman was awakened and given her medication.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reports the Dogs of Valor award is presented by the U.S. Humane Society.
