D.A.R.E officer suspended in N.J.

PENNSVILLE, N.J. - March 8, 2010

The officer with the Pennsville Police Department was the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E) officer who worked in all of the schools in the Pennsville School District, according to Pennsville Police Chief Bruce Maahs.

Maahs told Action News the suspension of Patrolman Robert Waterman came after "a couple of alleged incidents" of possession of child pornography and harassment of a female student.

Waterman, who is in his 20s and has been with the Pennsville Police for four years, was suspended Friday.

Maahs said he could not release details of the investigation because it is being handled by outside agencies.

Pennsville School District Superintendent Dr. Mark Jones says he has not received any complaints about the officer, or heard of any incidents in which a student was harassed.
