I-476 construction zone to expand in MontCo

KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. - March 10, 2010

For drivers on I-476, it will definitely affect the commute.

It's the next phase of the $71 million project to rebuild the north end of the Blue Route, where 65,000 drivers pass through the area daily.

Starting Monday, weather permitting, PennDOT is expanding its construction zone for southbound drivers. They'll have to decide earlier whether to take the express lane or take one of the two local lanes.

The split between the express lane and the local lanes will be moved to just after the Mid-County toll plaza.

Drivers who choose the express lane need to remember they will not be able to exit for the Schuylkill Expressway or Ridge Pike.

This Blue Route project is one of many coming our way thanks to federal stimulus money. Normally, PennDOT bids out $350 million to $400 million for roadwork. This year, the total is $646 million.
