Authorities want to try 4 as adults in NJ slayings

CAMDEN, N.J. - March 10, 2010

The Camden County Prosecutor's Office applied Wednesday to have the cases of a 14-year-old girl and three 17-year-old boys moved to adult court.

A judge will decide. There's a higher legal standard to move the case of the 14-year-old.

A defendant convicted of murder in adult court would have to serve at least 20 years in prison. Someone convicted of the same charge in juvenile court could be free in less than seven years.

The four juveniles are among eight teens charged with the murders of Mariah Huff and Michael Hawkins, whose bodies were found Feb. 25. Some are charged with one murder, some with both.
