Police prepare for St. Pat's Day DUI enforcement

DOVER, Del. (AP) - March 11, 2010

The state Office of Highway Safety is scheduling statewide enforcement for the next two weekends. In addition to DUI checkpoints, agency spokeswoman Andrea Summers says 15 state, county and municipal law enforcement agencies will conduct 127 saturation patrols throughout the state.

On Saturday, the New Castle County DUI Task Force will conduct an eight-hour sobriety checkpoint coinciding with Wilmington's annual St. Patrick's Day Loop, which involves activities at several bars. Summers says there is a designated driver message on the bracelets that participants must wear.

Last year, 52 people were arrested on drunken driving charges during St. Patrick's Day enforcement activities.
