Police: Robbery leads to murder, chase and shootout

NORRISTOWN, Pa. - March 12, 2010

It began around 10:00 p.m. Thursday night.

Police say four men attempted to rob an unidentified man in the 300 block of Wood Street in Norristown.

During the robbery, police say a man inside a home on the block heard a disturbance and opened his door. Sources say that's when he was shot and killed by one of the robbers.

The victim has been identified as 49-year-old Stanford Jackson.

The four robbers then fled the scene in a car.

Investigators say, that's when the robbery victim and one of Jackson's relatives got in a car and gave chase.

During that chase, police say people in both cars fired gun shots at each other.

The chase continued into Plymouth Township, where police stopped the vehicles at Ridge and Belvoir Roads.

Four people are in custody and being questioned.
